Reducing superpollutants can deliver significant climate benefits in the near term. Superpollutants include methane, nitrous oxide, and ozone-depleting substances, among other pollutants, which can have a much greater warming impact than carbon dioxide.
Our latest infographic explores the important role superpollutant reductions can play in delivering immediate, significant, and credible climate action, and highlights how the Reserve is helping drive high-integrity projects that reduce these emissions.
Superpollutant projects can deliver climate benefits quickly, and many involve the onsite destruction of climate pollutants using direct measurement tools. This provides transparency and certainty around emission reductions, giving carbon market participants confidence in the quality of reported reductions.
The Reserve’s protocols addressing methane, nitrous oxide, and ozone-depleting substances have delivered significant climate benefits while contributing to the growth and integrity of carbon markets. To date, the Reserve has registered more than 137.9 million credits for activities addressing superpollutants under our voluntary protocols and through compliance programs in California and Washington.
Explore the infographic to learn more about the climate benefits of superpollutant projects and the role they can play in accelerating credible climate action.
