The Reserve’s modular Nitric Acid Production Protocol addresses GHG emission reductions associated with the installation and use of nitrous oxide (N2O) emission control technology to reduce N2O emissions generated as a byproduct of nitric acid production.
The Reserve’s modular format consists of the Nitric Acid Production Protocol that contains guidance applicable across all jurisdictions and jurisdiction modules that contain geographic-specific guidance.

Project developers worldwide are welcome to submit nitric acid production projects to the Reserve now, even if a jurisdiction module has not yet been developed for your country. The protocol applies across all jurisdictions, and modules are being added over time. This early submittal allows project developers to establish a submittal date, signal interest in the development of the jurisdiction module, and, once the jurisdiction module is approved, proceed immediately to request listing and registration. Stakeholders may also submit concepts for new jurisdiction modules.
